How Do You Buy Natural Skin Care Products?

by Peter Albertonich

You’ve become aware that many big name skin care products contain potentially dangerous ingredients, so you want to buy natural skin care products instead.

Or maybe you’re looking to buy natural skin care products because youve become aware that they actually work better than the big brand skin care and anti aging products?

Whichever reason it is, or maybe both, there are some home truths you need to know before buying natural skin care products.

But sadly, if it’s news to you it’s true, many big brand name skin care products can contain very suspect ingredients that may be bad for your health or your skin. And that’s cosmetics and many personal and beauty products as well.

Quick example, a recent study found lead in many big brand lipsticks. Now is that scary or what?

So as a result there are many women who are looking to buy natural skin care products, cosmetics and more to find products that are safe to use.

But is this really a good idea? You see there is no real definition of what “natural” means for skin care products or cosmetics.

The FDA isnt required to test or to satisfy itself that the products contain safe ingredients, thats why the problem exists in the first place. Its the same with natural or organic skin care products and anti aging products.

So there are products on the market labelled “natural” or “organic” which on testing have been found to have 1,4-dioxane in them. This is a product of petrochemical processing and is suspected of being a human carcinogen.

Does all that put you off? Don’t despair, there are ways to buy natural skin care products that are both effective and safe to use.

Firstly find the Compact for Safe Cosmetics. And use that to see if any manufacturer of a product line has signed that Compact evidencing their commitment to making only products using known safe ingredients.

Secondly find the Cosmetic Safety Database and put any proposed product into their search to see how the product ingredients stack up for health risks.

If you do these two things you should be reasonably confident that the products are safe to use. But that doesnt tell you they work well.

So if you do that you’ve got safe products, but how do you know you’ve got effective products? Do they work?

Well it’s really almost impossible to say unless you actually use them for yourself. That’s by far the best way. But if you try them for, say, 3 months and they’ve done nothing for your skin what do you do? Have you lost your money? Can’t you get a guarantee?

Well I’m pleased to say that one small niche skincare company has signed the compact, makes excellent quality products using only known safe natural ingredients and also is so proud of their products they offer a full money back guarantee.

So that’s a little information for anyone interested in how to buy natural skincare products. Don’t assume, if you see the word “natural”, that the products are safe, or effective. They may be neither.
