Is Acai Berry really the number one superfood?

This so called superfood has become on the most popular foods in the world. Acai comes from south America, specifically in the norther area. This food is widely distributed and has an important part of the economy in Brazil.

Dr Perricone wrote a best selling book called “The Perricone Promise: Look Younger, Live Longer in Three Easy Steps”. in the book, he gave shows how acai has various, outstanding health benefits.

TV networks has also been all over this products, notably Oprah. She has praised the health and weight loss benefits of this products to all of her audience.

Health magazines have investigated the benefits of acai due to its popularity. They too have reported the acai is really a superfood because it is full of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and various nutrients.

But the main substance that differentiate acai berry from any other food is the sheer amount of antioxidants that it contains. Those same nutrients that have been proven to help reduces the damaging effect of free radicals.

Anthocyanins are the chemical components that give the intense color to many fruits and vegetables. You can also find them in red grapes, and it is the same compounds responsible for the health benefits of red wine.

However acai berry is a superfood because it has 33 times more anthocyanins than grapes. modern science is beginning to recognize and validate the merits of acai.

In fact, one recent scientific research study highlights the far reaching scope of this phenomenal fruit. The study showed that acai was able to destroy cultured human cancer cells. Specifically, four out of six different chemical extracts made from acai fruit pulp triggered a self-destruct response in up to 86 percent of leukemia cells tested.

With modern science beginning to catch up in its understanding of the acai, we could be on the forefront of a major health promoting explosion. That is the main reason why more and more people are rushing to get their acai berry supplements.
